Please be advised that on Oct. 22, 10:00am-11:00am ET, we are happy to host Global Psychology Alliance (GPA) members, Drs. Ismahan Diop, Wendy Jeremie, & Marijana Markovikj, who will be giving a talk on Creating a Toolkit for Mental Health Improvement: Understanding Indigenous Psychology and Mental Health, A 10-Lesson Course. Their bios and the Zoom link for the talk are below. We hope that as many of you as possible will be able to attend.
 

  • Dr. Ismahan S. Diop

    Dr. Ismahan S. Diop is a clinical psychologist at Université Cheikh Anta Diop of Dakar, Senegal, where she is an associate professor in the Department of Psychology. Her work on African mythology and storytelling has contributed to the development of Tampsy - a psychotherapeutic tool using a decolonial approach to mental healthcare. In addition to several publications in French in peer-reviewed journals, she has published two books - African Mythology, Femininity and Maternity (2019) and Adornment, Masquerade, and African Femininity (2023).Ismahan’s participation in the Global Psychology Alliance (GPA) has resulted in various international partnerships for the Association of Psychologists of Senegal (APSYSEN) of which she is a founding member and past-president.
     
  • Dr. Wendy Jeremie

    Dr. Wendy Jeremie is a clinical psychologist and a former lecturer at the Catholic Religious Education Development Institute (CREDI), and Open Campus, The University of the West Indies. She is a Past President of the Trinidad and Tobago Association of Psychologists, an International Affiliate of the American Psychological Association (APA) and currently chairs the APA Committee for Global Psychology (CGP). She is passionate about reaching “the man in the street” and ensuring continuous improvement in the mental health and well-being of her clients, through a combination of therapeutic techniques, effort, and practice.
     
  • Dr. Marijana Markovikj

    Dr. Marijana Markovikj is a full professor and senior researcher at the University of “Ss Cyril and Methodius”, Institute for Sociological, Political and Juridical Research (ISPJR), Macedonia. She is a professor of master and doctoral studies at the Institute (ISPJR) and Faculty of Law at UKIM. Her theoretical and research areas of interest are in the fields of mass and interpersonal communication, political psychology, gestalt psychotherapy, mental health, and collective trauma. Besides being a GPA member, she is also a member of the Journalism Education and Trauma Research Group (JETREG) and the Global Risk Journalism Hub (GRJH). She has been a vital participant on several national and international projects, conferences, and has published multiple papers and articles in national and international journals.
